Overhaul of Main Winch
Project Overview
Kim Son Technology Service Co., Ltd was contracted to perform a full overhaul of the main winch on a ZOLLERN GETRIEBE pedestal crane installed on an FPSO operated by HADUCO. The scope included provision of certified manpower, specialized tools, test equipment, genuine spare parts, consumables, surface preparation, and protective coating.
Scope of Work
Full mechanical and hydraulic overhaul of the main winch including:
- Full disassembly of winch gearbox, brake group, and hydraulic motor
- Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) performed on sun gear and input shaft – no cracks detected
- Replacement of complete disc brake seal kit and all static/dynamic seals with genuine ZOLLERN parts
- Renewal of hydraulic motor shaft seal and manifold o-rings
- Freed and replaced all seized manifold bolts
- Precision cleaning and flushing of internal oil passages
- Reassembly with strict adherence to manufacturer torque specifications (brake group torqued to 150 ft-lb)
- Static brake pressure test successfully conducted to 69 bar (1,000 PSI) as per ZOLLERN recommendations
- Full functional testing of winch in all speed and load settings – smooth operation confirmed
- Complete grit blasting to SA 2.5 standard followed by three-coat marine epoxy painting system
The Result
The main winch was returned to “as-new” mechanical and cosmetic condition, fully compliant with manufacturer specifications and ready for immediate offshore reinstallation. All works were documented with detailed service reports, pressure test certificates, NDT reports, and material certificates for traceability.
